Meet Dr. Abel
Dr. Abel is a native of Buckhannon, West Virginia. He currently practices full-scope primary care optometry including pediatrics, geriatrics, contact lens fitting and treatment and management of ocular disease (including glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetic eye disease).
Dr. Abel is a 1997 graduate of Buckhannon-Upshur High School. In May of 2001, Dr. Abel received his undergraduate degree, a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, at Wheeling Jesuit University in Wheeling, WV. Dr. Abel was then accepted at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia, receiving his Doctor of Optometry degree May 2005. While there he completed internships in glaucoma specialty, low vision care, pediatrics, ocular disease and primary care optometry.
Dr. Abel successfully completed an internship rotation at the Clarksburg Veteran’s Administration Medical Center during the fall and winter of 2004-2005. He has continued to enjoy his Veteran patient care, and currently sees patients there a few days per week. While there he manages patients with multiple medical conditions and extensive ocular disease as well. Dr. Abel is part of a multi-faceted medical team helping to care for his patient’s total well-being.
Dr. Abel holds a license to practice in West Virginia including expanded diagnostic and therapeutic ocular and systemic medications. He is a member in good standing of the American Optometric Association, AOA Contact Lens and Cornea Section and the West Virginia Optometric Association.
