General Lens Care

  • Any time a contact lens is removed from the eye, it must be cleaned and disinfected before being reinserted.
  • Always wash hands before handling contact lenses
  • Whenever lenses have been removed from the case, the case should be rinsed with warm water and allowed to air dry
  • Routinely replace contact lens cases every three (3) months
  • Use only commercial lens disinfectant solution
  • Never reuse solution after one cleaning/disinfection cycle
  • Never use saliva to moisten a contact lens; never put a contact lens in your mouth
  • Contact lenses should never be store in non-sterile fluids such as distilled water, tap water, bottled water, or home-purified water
  • Lubricating/rewetting drops can be placed directly into the eye while contact lenses are being worn to increase lens-wearing comfort
  • Never sleep in contact lenses, unless otherwise specified by your Optometrist
  • Always remove contact lenses and disinfect for at least four (4) hours (soaking) after being in a hot tub, swimming pool, river, lake, etc.
  • Never wear torn contact lenses
  • If you ever have pain, discharge, irritation, and/or redness while wearing contacts, discontinue use and notify your Optometrist immediately
